S.T.A.R.T.S.

Seedlings, Transplants, And Regenerated Tissue Selections
  • Looking for notable Lilium species and hybrids of historical importance.
  • Species will mostly be started from seed unless a spectacular clone is obtained with traits not necessarily passed down to its progeny.
  • Most clones will be started into tissue culture from flower bud culture if possible. Hopefully, this will reduce viral loads on old cultivars returning their earlier vigor.
  • The methods of having buds shipped to arrive here in satisfactory conditions still must be worked out. Perhaps using flat rate or priority mail shipments.
  • If bud culture is not primarily possible tissue cultured plants will be initiated from scales but replaced by bud cultures when possible.
  • I will/have been acquiring bulbs of older cultivars to flower on and using bud culture to start tissue cultures for propagation.
  • Material will be procured primarily from donors, private individuals, commercial growers, and botanical gardens.
  • Donors will be given credit for donations and reimbursed with plant material of their choice as available. Credits will be determined based on type and rarity of material received.
  • Donors will be offered new and reintroduced plant material first.
  • Generally, bulbs offered will NOT be flowering size, but established tissue cultured bulbs. This program is designed to promote the distribution of species and the genetic material of historically significant hybrids.
  • Plants will be removed from tissue culture and established as growing bulbs before being offered to donors first and then the public.
  • Plant material will be offered on a rotating basis depending on production limits and demand.
  • The program will be fine-tuned as it progresses.
  • If you feel you have notable species or hybrids of historical importance growing in your garden, I would like to get in contact with you!
